Minoans in Canaan

At http://popular-archaeology.com/issue/april-2011/article/archaeologists-u... - this is a subject that reads like something right out of Ages in Chaos, and various SIS articles on similarities between Late Bronze Canaanite culture, literature, and language, and the Aegean world. Excavations at a huge Middle Bronze Age Canaanite palace complex near ancient Acco, at Tell Kabri, has been found to have origins as far back as Middle Bronze I.

Luni-solar influences and the length of the day

At http://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/04/10/solar-terrestrial-lunisolar-compon... by Paul Vaughn, M.Sc. It is about a French paper on solar cycles and the rate of change of the length of day, by Courtillot et al (2010). Variations in the length of day involve the lunar nodal cycle (18.6 days), the lunar apse cycle (8.85 years), the terrestrial year (1 year) and harmonics (0.5 and 4.42 yrs). Comet Storm

One man writing down what he thinks might have happened at the end of the Pleistocene - Dennis Cox, April 2011, at http://cometstorm.wordpress.com/2011/04/06/a-different-kind-of-climate-c... ... It all began as a hobby, hunting for meteorites, a popular pastime in the States as they fetch worthwhile sums of money, aided by his military training in assessing battle and blast damage from bombs etc (using aerial photography). He applied the same technique in his search for meteorites, finding evidence of blast on the ground - impact geology.

A Climate Change Most Foul

At http://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/04/09/the-pre-climategate-issue-that-is-... is Anthony Watts take on a piece of McIntyre sleuthing that can be view in full at http://climateaudit.org/2011/04/09/yamal-and-hide-the-decline/ which is the full disclosure of what was going on behind the scenes to upset the HADCru whistle blower leading up to the Climategate email leak about 18 months ago. In the News was covering the Yamal tree ring story as developed at the time by McIntyre.

Black Holes ... gamma ray bursts and things

At www.physorg.com/print221457830.html we have an interesting interpretation of an astronomical event - two neutron stars merge and within mill-seconds, it is said, form a black hole. It can't of course be seen but is thought to happen, even the neutron stars are hypothetical as far as composition is concerned. What is known for sure is that such an event coincides with the formation of a strong magnetic field along the rotational axis which creates a jet that shoots ultra hot matter into space - a gamma ray burst event.

A Bronze Age dark age in Britain?

At www.bbc.co.uk/science-environment-12989605 - a large gap in prehistory, it seems, may indicate Britain underwent an economic slowdown between 800 and 500BC, where experts struggle to explain what was happening. The assumption is that bronze was in decline and iron was not yet in general everyday use. Neil Oliver, of BBC TV fame, says bronze axes had become a sort of proto-currency. It was a wealth that was divorced from its use as a metal and like modern economic bubbles it could burst - leading to economic meltdown. This is of course one way of looking at the evidence.

Earthquakes ... are they increasing?

Piers Corbyn has attributed current earthquake activity to lunar and solar factors - and presumably the much smaller influences on earth by the planets. In effect, it is a peculiarity of 2011 - but that peculiarity pops up at www.physorg.com/print221480079.html where it asks, 'Are we living in an age of giant earthquakes?' - following a succession of large tremors. An earthquake, it suggests, represents the abrupt release of seismic strain that has built up over years as plates of the earth's crust slowly grind and rub up against each other.

Another close shave

At www.physorg.com/print221392528.html there is a report from Spaceweather.com that said two small asteroids came close to earth on April 6th - half the distance of the Moon. They were 10km and 6km wide respectively - and there are more on the way later in the year.

Charlatans

Piers Corbyn, on April 5th, said that during the period April 6-9th there was a threat of a major earthquake - and this duly happened, in Mexico. This follows earlier predictions of earthquake activity that came to pass in Japan, Thailand and New Zealand. People are beginning to sit up and notice - especially when he suggests western North America is vulnerable. Corbyn's methodology involves luni-solar cycles, or astrology as AGW alarmists decried after he successfully predicted the blizzards of 2009. Seems there are a lot of charlatans out there.

Gary's updates

Two new pages have been uploaded by Gary at www.gks.uk.com/Horus-Behdety-Winged-Disk/ and www.gks.uk.com/Re-Horakhty_Horus/ and as always he has some lovely images of genuine Egyptian statuary which are worth looking at solely for that reason. The text is an ongoing story, and represents a completely novel way of interpreting Egyptian mythology and history. Readers can make up their own minds - but as in all these things, a receptive or open mind is an attribute.
