Milky Way Explosion

Not long ago, the centre of the Milky Way exploded. Using data from the Hubble Space Telescope researchers calculated it took place 3 and a half million years ago (quite recent in geological terms) - see https://phys.org/news/2019-10-center-milky.html ... It is described as a titanic expanding beam of energy that sprang from near the super massive black hole at the heart of our galaxy. It has been labelled the Seyfest Flare which went on to create two enormous 'ionisation cones' that shot through the galaxy and beyond, expanding vastly as it fired away.

Follow the Money

At https://wattsupwiththat.com/2019/10/06/understanding-the-climate-movemen... ... a guest post by Dr Paul Rossiter. He claims the main engine driving the climate movement is money. Eye watering amounts of money. He said he became quite despondent when researching and writing the article as big and powerful forces were at work - in positions of power in the western world. For example, the capitalisation of the renewable energy industry is over One Trillion dollars.

Was Venus Once Like Earth

This story is at https://phys.org/news/2019-10-venus-lava.html ... it was one of those things used by climate alarmists that once upon a time Venus was once warm and wet, just like the Earth (even though Venus is somewhat nearer the Sun than we are). The story continued by saying that runaway co2 led to runaway warming and now Venus is a hell hole. Velikovsky claimed Venus was young and had not cooled down but one thing is for sure and that is Venus is very active - with lots of volcanoes and lava flows.

Unusual Auroral Activity

At www.spaceweather.com (8th October 2019) we have solar minimum and the Sun has been blank (no spots) for 28 out of the last 30 days. In such a situation solar flares and certainly not on the scale to breach Earth's magnetosphere. However, we have just an Arctic auroar outburst - without the whiff of a sun spot. The image below was taken in Norway ...

Cyanide Gas

At https://phys.org/news/2019-10-astronomers-cyanide-gas-interstellar-2ibor... ... which concerns comet Borisov, the newcomer currently making its way through the solar system. Data gathered by the William Herschel Telescope founhd it contains cyanide. It is therefore potentially dangerous to life on Earth - a killer. However, calculations of its future trajectory show it is not going to come anywhere in the vicinity of the Earth. Saved by the bell.

Black Death Genetics

At https://archaeologynewsnetwork.blogspot.com/2019/10/ancient-genomes-prov... ... a team has hanalysed plague victims from the UK, France, Germany, Russia, and Switzerland in order to gain more info on the secondary outbreaks - from the 14th to 18th centuries AD. The Black Death itself occurred in mid 14th century and appears to display evidence of a single strain of the virus, However, there was subsequently a host of later outbreaks of the plague, some of them quite devastating.

Younger Dryas in Africa

William sent in this link to https://phys.org/news/2019-10-hypothesis-asteroid-contributed-mass-extin... ... another discovery on the Younger Dryas impact theory. This time at Wunderdratar in the Limpopo province of South Africa. The research was published in Palaeontoliga Africanus by a team led by the University of Witwatersrand's Francis Thackeray. What they found was a platinum spike north of Pretoria. The evidence comes from a core drilled in a peat deposit, within a sample dated 12,800 years ago.

Organic Compounds Found on Enceladus

This is one of the big stories this week - on the origin of life (are scientists are on the verge of showing us how life developed on the Earth). Go to https://phys.org/news/2019-10-compounds-enceladus-ice-grains.html ...  For an added bonus you can also go to https://wattsupwiththat.com/2019/10/03/new-organic-compounds-found-in-en... ... which comes with lots of interesting comments (and an equal number of not so interesting comments). Wheat and chaff and all that.
