Life on Mars

At https://phys.org/news/2019-11-photos-evidence-life-mars-ohio.html ... it seems insect might have lived on Mars. Are they the vermin of Velikovsky? An Ohio University professor says we already have evidence of life on Mars. He specialises in arbovirology and medical entymology said he spent a lot of time looking at photographs beamed back from Mars. He claims to have found insects in those photographs. He presented his findings to a meeting of the Entomological Society of America in St Louis (November 2019) and said, there has been and still is life on Mars.

Ibis Mummies

The ancient Egyptians mummified a number of different animals, from bulls to crocodiles. They also mummified the sacred Ibis bird - but did they harvest from the wild or were they domesticated. Rather than read the press release here is the full article in PLoS ONE online journal - go to https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0223964 ... the authors claim to have discovered where they obtained so many Ibis - over the course of hundreds of years. Ibis played an important role in Egyptian religion.

Hyenas in Yukon

At www.vice.com/en_uk/article/j5wnx7/ancient-bone-crushing-hyena-roamed-the... ... hyenas, during the Ice Age, lived between Mexico and the Yukon, in the far north. Ice Age hyenas are said to have lived in the Arcitc - the assumption being that the geoid of the Earth has remained unchanged. Hyena fossils are sometimes found in the UK (in cave deposits for example) but the Yukon example involved three teeth found back in the 19760s.

Transit of Mercury

William sent in the link https://mercurytransit.gsfc.nasa.gov/display.php?year=2019&phase=All&dat... ...which may or may not work for you. If not go to https://spaceweather.com and key down to 12th November 2019 which has a video which is crystal clear (probably the same one)_. The best view of the transit comes from NASAs Solar Dynamics Observatory (22,000 miles above the surface of the earth).

None the less, backyard astronomers were also able to make an image - see for example ....

Dinosaur Finds

At https://phys.org/news/2019-11-oldest-carnivorous-dinosaur-fossil-unearth... ... the oldest carnivorous dinosaur found to date has been unearthed in Brazil. It has been dated 233 million years ago -during the Triassic. At this time South America was still part of Pangeae (joined at the hip with Africa). The fossil was intact (see image below). Fossil evidence of Triassic dinosaurs are apparently scarce but see also https://doi.org/10.7717/peerj.7903

Oxygen on Mars

This link was sent in by Gary - www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-7680651/ ... NASA scientists are said to be baffled after a portable chemistry lab on the Curiosity Rover (sampling the air) detected fluctuations in oxygen levels on Mars. The oxygen levels vary from one season to the next (over a 3 year period) and scientists now think that it is not the atmosphere of Mars that is fluctuating, as such, but somewhere in the vicinity there is an oxygen sink (or oxygen is leaking on to the surface). If so it is currently an unknown source of oxygen.

Giant Structures

In one of those, I wonder what they can be moments, we have another interesting link provided by Gary - https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/zmj76pw/theres-growing-evidence-that-... ... scientists are discovering that galaxies can move with each other across vast distances - against the predictions of mainstream cosmological models. Some galaxies seem to move in odd and often unexplained ways as if they were connected by a common unseen force. These discoveries hint at an enigmatic influence - what are being called large scale structures in space.
