Niaux

At www.q-mag.org/the-salon-noir-the-cave-of-niaux.html ... the cave of Niaux was never used as a dwelling but it has a lot of cave paintings. Anne Marie provides the history leading up to a proper investigation of the cave and its heritage. The mountain itself is riddled and hollowed out by a network of caves but in one large gallery there are over 10 figures and representations, 55 of which are bovine and 29 equine. The vast cavity, 45m high and shaped like a nave, has exceptional accoustic qualities. The least murmur or noise is repeated and amplified as an echo.

Chesil Beach

I posted a story on the Chesil Beach a few years ago but now Gary has sent in a link to his web site that some readers may find interesting - go to www.godkingscenario.com/blog/chesil-beach-stones-mars ... I suppose if you take Velikovsky literally when it comes to stones falling out of the sky one might visualise Chesil Beach in Dorset as one such place where they might have landed - but there are an enormous number of stones there. However, this is not to dismiss Gary's article as it has a lot of information about the stones he has gleaned from various sources.

Wrong on Jupiter

Sent in  by Robert - https://crev.info/2018/01/astronomical-theories-totally-wrong-upside/ ... which concerns a couple of admissions that have already been aired on the News. Space exploration is throwing up all kinds of discoveries many of which contradict mainstream astronomical thinking. However, astronomers generally admit they are wrong - unlike some other fields of science. They have been proved wrong on many occasions over the last 40 years or so but they are out there in space finding out new things all the time - and testing theories.

Diamond Encrustment

Sent in by Jovan - interesting claim - go to www.livescience.com/61409-extraterrestrial-hypatia-stone.html ... a space rock known as the Hypatia Stone, is diamond encrusted. It was found in SW Egypt in 1996 - little more than pebble size but it seems to belong to no known meteor category. Naturally, some lateral thinking has been applied and it has now been suggested it formed before the solar system. The stone consists of a carbon rich matrix shot through with a variety of rare minerals.

Mount Etna

Robert also sent in this link - go to www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-5274051/Mount-Etna-NOT-proper-vo... ... Mount Etna, an Italian geologist claims, is not a real volcano - but a giant hot spring. This is in spite of the molten rock spewed at regular intervals in what is one of Europe's most active volcanoes. However, it is also self evident it produces an  awful lot of water when it erupts - and gases. The source of the water seems to come from water rich deposits inside the Earth - as deep as the Upper Mantle.

First Humans Europe

William sent in this excellent link - research refutes theory regarding the dispersal of humans in Europe - go to https://phys.org/print435307967.html ... and you can read the full article, if so inclined, (over 30 pages including references) by going to DOI:10.1007/s41982-017-003-5 (click on the link at the bottom of the page above). A paper in the Journal of Paleolithic Archaeology disagrees with a recent publication that postulates the first humans entered northern and central Europe as early as a million years ago - earlier than previously estimated.

Black Death Pandemic

Two stories on the Black Death - one at https://phys.org/print435308864.html ... and https://phys.org/print435312986.html ... at the first one we learn about analysis of thousands of skeletons. Genetic material from infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and the plague leave fossil traces of themselves in human teeth. A molecular fossil record was used to build a genetic profile of Yersinia pestis - the organism behind bubonic plague. The research team were able to trace the disease back to the Stone Age - which was a surprise.

Misbehaving Comets

At http://spaceweather.com we have 3 stories on comets currently visible with binoculars (posts dated 10th and 11th January). One concerns a strange blue comet beyond the orbit of Mars - comet Pan Starrs. Active jets of gaseous material are streaming from the comet nucleus and feeding a tail that is full of swirls ...

Diluvicursor

At https://phys.org/print434879707.html ... diluvicursors were turkey sized herbivorous dinosaurs. These are orthinopods but diluvicursors are a sub species and the new find is of a slightly different nature and touted as a new version of diluvicursor (if that makes sense). Hopefully it does. Diluvicursor pickeringii is named after a chap with the surname Pickering (a good Yorkshire name). It was discovered in rocks in SE Australia. To be more exact, in Lower Cretaceous rocks of a sedimentary basin.

Yorkshire Woodhenge

At www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/ancient-henge-discovered-in-yorkshire-1-893... ... excavations at a quarry in East Yorkshire have come across what was a henge (without the stones) - one made with tree posts. It is circular in shape with a surrounding ditch and bank (classic henge dynamics). However, there is also a bit of a mystery - lots of burnt stones. You can often come across heaps of burnt flints in Iron Age enclosures in various locations in the UK but the professionals usually take a view that doesn't leave them hanging themselves out with a theory that may prove to be wrong.
