Mount Etna Cone

At https://phys.org/print441599802.html ... did high sea levels in the Mediterranean create the iconic shape of Mount Etna? A study by Iain Stewart of Plymouth University has explored changes in the volcano from 130,000 years ago. It changed from a fissure type of shield volcano which came to an end around 130,000 years ago - the last interglacial period. Instead, it became an inland cluster of nested stratovolcanoes driven by a rearrangement of major faults. At the point of change there seems to have been very high sea levels in the Mediterranean and Etna was submerged.

Politically Correct Climate

The link was sent in by William. At www.yahoo.com/news/m/0c2cbd7b-98c1-365d-853e-618eefe4d915/ss_the-stunnin... ... the stunning statistical fraud behind CAGW alarmism. This came from the Investor's Business Daily and concerns NOAA, the US bureau tasked with collating temperature data (among other things weather related). It tells us its data is fraudulent. NOAA has made repeated 'adjustments' to date and the aim is to make them more accurate - so they say.

Houghton

Houghton in Cambridgeshire. The Guardian has a story about archaeological finds during construction of a 21 mile stretch of the Huntingdon by-pass on the A14  (see www.theguardian.com/science/2018/mar/27/anglo-saxon-settlement-and-roman... ...). Beware - all Guardian online articles end by asking for a donation. Do not fall for this trick as they are serial tax avoiders using an offshore account. Like some other newspapers the Guardian has a good archaeology section.

Salt Shaker

At www.scientificamerican.com/article/primeval-salt-shakes-up-ideas-on-how-... ... an excellent link sent in by Jovan - primeval salt deposit shakes up ideas on how the atmosphere got its oxygen (by Nola Taylor Redd). An ancient deposite of 'sea salt' drilled from a geological basin in Russia is providing dramatic new clues on how Earth's 'early' atmosphere became oxygen rich - allowing life to evolve. This salt deposit is a billion years older than other salt deposits we are told.

Year 14 Tiglath Pileser

We don't usually have much to post on ancient history but Eric sent in an email to say the Velikovsky Discussion Group has posted a claim that Assyrian history, based around year 14 of Tiglath Pileser III, has been aligned with the discredited chronology of Floyd Nolan Jones and Ussher. Their system uses periods of inter regna with no known kings (blank years in other words) to reach their specific aim of compatability with Biblical chronology of the Monarchy.

Hunkering Down

At http://notrickszone.com/2018/03/25/alarmism-takes-a-big-hit-flood-of-new... ... the headline reads, Alarmism takes a Big Hit: a flood of new scientific findings show nothing unusual happening on climate. For example, one papers shows quite clearly modern temperatures are not much different from those in the Roman Warm Period or the Medieval Warm Period, a fact that keeps popping up that alarmists like to ignore.

Neutron Star

In a link that provides an insight into mainstream thinking - go to www.skyandtelescope.com/astronomy-news/astronomers-witness-x-ray-burst-f... ... sent in by Jovan. Astronomers have discovered a neutron star with an old red star as its companion - or that is what is being claimed. Red stars are thought to be near the end of their food supply, it's core almost burnt out, in a series of stages. These layers are ejected by the star's own solar wind, and in turn this material may possibly collide with its companion, the neutron star.

Flooded Mediterranean

This story is at https://phys.org/print441004470.html ... evidence of an abrupt sea level rise 7600 years ago has been discovered in the northern Aegean. It is not immediately apparent why that number rather than 8000 years ago is used but it becomes more obvious the deeper one reads. We are told a flood of fresh water invaded the North Atlantic by a lake of glacial water (thousands of years after the last glaciation) which caused ocean currents to change etc.

Stephen Hawking Again

Jovan sent in the link http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/d-brief/2018/03/20/stephen-hawking-fin... ... what did Stephen Hawking's final paper say (and doesn't say). It was on the idea of the multi-verse - different universes within each other. This is bound up with another idea, eternal inflation. It continues to inflate forever - in most places. It can in some places actually stop - and where it stops a new universe forms (in a repeating process that has no end). You won't be much wiser after the reading the link.

Automated Sea Vehicles

At https://phys.org/print441015805.html ... advances in ocean monitoring are improving our understanding of the sea and its environment - from marine creatures to sea surface temperature changes. Rsearch ships are costly and sea conditions are not always ideal for crew and researcher alike. The Auton Naut, it is hoped, will change things, offering a cheaper alternative. The boat is propelled by a wave foil that harvests energy from the natural pitch and rolling at sea - a commercial application of wave propulsion.
