Centaurs and Humans

Robert sent in a link to https://phys.org/news/2019-10-jupiter-cradle-comets.html ... but see https://www.sis-group.org.uk/news/centaurs.htm ... where the same subject has already been on the News. The study concerns huge comets known as centaurs orbiting beyond Jupiter. The inference is that a lot of smaller comets also inhabit that region of the sky and are regularly kicked into a new orbit taking them into the inner solar system on a journey around the Sun (until they are finally broken up into streams of dust that litter near space). As previously noted, centaurs (large comets) occasionally do the same - breaking through what is described as the gateway (blocked by Jupiter until the gate opens and they can pass through into the inner solar system). The proliferation of comets in any given year is something of a mystery as they must all have passed through the gateway. A really big centaur, it is calculated (method not divulged), may pass through once every 50,0000 years. What has captured their attention is a centaur 40 miles across which is lined up to pass through the gateway over the next few thousand years. Potentially, we are told, it could become the most spectacular comet humankind has ever seen (which defines early humans as less than human if you take it literally as 50,000 years ago we are back in the days of the Neanderthals and Denisovans etc).

The paper is at https://doi.org/10.3847/2041-8213/ab3fb3 ... and they add, our descendants could see a comet 100 times more active than Comet Halley - on an orbit around the Sun every 6 to 10 years (rather than the 75 or 76 years of Halley). They further add, if there had been a comet this bright in the last 10,000 years we would know about it. We take this as strong evidence that a similar event has not happened at least since then because ancient civilisations would not only have recorded the comet, they may have worshipped it. Wow. Clearly they haven't looked at religion very closely and seem to think Lucifer was a human like figure with wings rather than a bright object in the night, so bright it challenged the brightness of the Sun during the daytime. Not only that they appear to be totally ignorant of the work of Clube and Napier, fellow astronomers, and their claim that a centaur did indeed invade the inner solar system around 40,000 years ago - bringing about a mass die off of animals and the disappearance of the Neanderthals and other early humans. And that is without Velikovsky. Is there an excuse they have not heard of his work - and I suppose that depends on their age. Remarkable that they have lived in a bubble and their lives have been so safe and secure they know nothing of anything contrary to the mainstream version of events. They need to get out more - or is it a case they are loathe to mention Velikovsky, or Clube and Napier, as it might draw bad vibrations from their peers. Do they mean the opposite of what they are saying?
