Strange Planets

4 Apr 2021

At ... two strange planets, Neptune and Uranus. Both have skewed magnetic fields and both are tilted. The reason for this has been a long time mystery. Innovative computer modelling has come to the rescue.

At ... x-rays emitted by Uranus have been detected once again. This story has also popped up at on Good Friday, 2nd April. What could cause Uranus to emit x-rays?

At ... Indian astronomers have investigated an x-ray pulsar, 2SA 1417-624. X-ray pulsars are 'sources' displaying strictg periodic variations in x-ray intensity. They were thought to consist of a magnetised neutron star in orbit with a normal star [or sun]. In such binary systems the x-ray environ is powered by the reliance of gravitational potential energy as material is acreted from a massive companion. X-ray pulsars are among the most luminous objects in the x-ray sky. Or that is the theory.

At ... new study sows doubt about the composition of 70 per cent of the universe. In other words, the idea 70 per cent of the universe is made up of dark energy is proving to be difficult to sustain. Dark energy became the 'cosmological constant', an idea developed by Einstein, it is claimed. Instead, we have dark matter, according to the new calculations - in the form of magnetic forces. Minus of course the electro bit of the two string bow. One might wonder if electro-magnetism might be the key to the mystery - but that is not what has been investigated. Apparently not, as they speak in terms of magnets - attracting and repelling. Is that what is going on in the universe? It would account, they suggest, for expansion of the universe, the holy grail.
