Geoffrey of Monmouth

At ... which is an interview with Miles Russell, the author of a revised look at Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia (the History of the Kings of Britain) which was reviewed in SIS Review a couple of years ago. The interview is a brief account of what is in his book. At the end of the piece we are told the article was first published in the December of 2014 issue of BBC History magazine.

More on First Americans

At ... humans in the Americas 15,000 years earlier than mainstream allowed. The findings are published in two Nature articles - see for example ... and here we have an interview, short, with Dr Becurra-Valdera of the University of New South Wales in Australia, and Tom Higham of Oxford University. The research papers included various others.

Interstellar Asteroids

At ...  a population of asteroids with an interstellar origin inhabits our solar system. It seems the idea of interstellar objects captured by our sun is gaining ground. A Brazilian study claims to have identified 19 asteroids from outer space. They are currently classified as centaur object with an unknown origin. They rotate around the sun in the region between the orbits of Jupiter and Neptune.

Bacteria in Space

Gary sent in this link to ... which is a piece that comes from The Conversation so is a question of opinion, validity unknown. The theory is that bacteria when released from the bounds of the earth system and sent into space along side human endeavours, may evolve in dangerous and deadly forms and become a menace then for humans venturing into space in the future. Bacteria on earth is affected by such things as gravity, as an example, or buoyancy.

Pechevalavato Mammoth

This two links were sent in by Robert. At ... where we are told that Russian scientists are in the process of retrieving a well preserved skeleton of a woolly mammoth. It still has ligaments attached to bone. It was found in silt and sediments of a lake in northern Siberia. Local reindeer hunters found pieces of bone and informed the authorities and scientists turned up to invesigate.

At ... grape pips revealed the collapse of the Roman empire involved plague and climate change. The paper is published in PNAS - see ... Israeli archaeologists have found evidence of economic decline on the fringe of the Byzantine empire in the aftermath of the 6th century AD pandemic. The research reconstructs the rise and  fall of commercial viticulture in what is now the Negev desert. They did this by sifting through the rubbish, or trash, dump.

Carolina Ponding

At ago-triggered-an-abrupt-climate-change-for-earth/ ... new evidence that an extraterrestrial collision 12,800 years ago triggered an abrupt climate change for earth. This is a new paper with lead Christopher Moore, University of South Carolina. The idea the Younger Dryas cooling event was caused by an impact, or by space debris, is highly controversial. This fairly obvious by reading the comments. Some people are almost religiously opposed to the idea of catastrophism.

David Lappin on dating the MK

New Chronology groups threw up a new paper by David Lappin, 'Observations of the Moon, Sirius, and Solar Eclipses: dating the MK and NK in Egypt (Part One)' ... See ... David Lappin is described as an astronomer and does not appear to be the historian of the same name. It involves the dating of MK pharaohs Senuseret III to 1690-1679 and Amenemhat III to 1679-1633BC.

A Cloud over Mars

The link was provided by Gary. At ... and concerns an mysterious cloud on Mars which is over 1000 miles in length. It was spotted back in 2018 and then went away. It is now back. Researchers think it is made of water ice.
