Natural Gas

At https://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2020/04/20/methane-forms-under-space-con... ... methane forms under space conditions simulated in a laboratory in Leiden University (the Netherlands). Methane is the main ingredient of natural gas - which is often located alongside oil within the crust of the earth. Methane is also one of the simplest hydrocarbons. It consists of one carbon atom with four hydrogen atoms. On earth humans create methane gas in landfill sites. This is burnt off. You can actually see the flames (controlled) if you drive past a landfill site at night.

Planet 9

Planet 9 is somewhat different to Planet X as it is projected, or was invented, in order to explain anomalies in the orbits of objects beyond Neptune. At https://astrobites.org/2020/04/18/an-alternative-to-planet-9-maybe-there... ... an alternative to Planet 9. Maybe there is nothing big out there at all and it is an invented problem. I suspect most people that read the original paper promoting the idea of Planet 9 felt the same way - but detractors of the idea have gone back to the drawing board (their computers) to find a way out - by smoothing the data.

Roman boat in Serbian coal mine

With a headline like that it must be click bait. The link is at https://arstechnica.com/science/2020/04/probable-roman-shipwrecks-uneart... ... and so it is. It is not a coal mine but an open cast mine and the boat was buried in the mud of an ancient river bed (for 1300 years). A Roman city was in the vicinity.

Trees of Life

ASt www.heritagedaily.com/2020/04/researchers-challenge-accuracy-of-methods-... ... researchers challenge the accuracy of methods that analyse trees of life. The paper is published in Nature (April 2020). Two scientists argue that long used approaches for reconstructing trees of life are 'deeply flawed'. The findings cast 'serious doubt' over thousands of earlier studies that use phylogenetic trees of extent data to reconstruct the diversification history of taxa - especially those taxa where fossils are rare.

Norwegian Climate Anomaly

This story has been in archaeological news for some time but it has now gone unbridled - see www.heritagedaily.com/2020/04/melting-ice-reveals-lost-viking-artefacts-... ... in Norway hundreds of rare archaeology finds have been revealed by melting ice on a lost mountain pass - which seems to have been ice free in the Roman and Viking eras. This isn't surprising to climate realists but it clearly does not fit into the idea we are living in the warmest period - evah.

Black Hole Conundrum

Stolen from the Tall Bloke - the headline that is. Nice video - see https://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2020/04/13/black-hole-conundrum/ ... a video ofa supermassive black hole spewing a brilliant jet of particles (derived from https://futurism.com/scientists-video-black-hole-spewing-matter ...). The blog author rightly asks - how does visible material escape from somewhere that nothing is supposed to escape from?

inconvenience

The corona virus episode has exposed an inconvenient fact - see https://notrickszone.com/2020/04/14/corona-exposes-inconvenient-truth-po... ... the inconvenient truth is that green activists have overhyped levels of pollution created by diesel cars, leading to politicos falling over themselves to be virtuous and bringing in new laws and taxes. The over hype worked of course, as it ever does. Politicos want to please - but its always the same minority they please. All a bit sad.

Interstellar Object

At www.heritagedaily.com/2020/04/origin-of-the-first-known-interstellar-obj... ... on an article published in Nature Astronomy (April 2020) https://doi.org/10.1038/s41550-020-1065-8 ... what was the origin of the interstellar object Oumoumua? Where did it come from? It was long and slendour and sailed through the solar system. Unike comets this object was dry - and unlike comets was near invisible. It is now thought there are many interstellar objects that pass through our piece of space - mostly going unnoticed.

Chandra Wickramasinghe

At https://cosmictusk.com/life-and-disease-and-corona-virus-from-space/ ... an interview conducted by Dr Predrag Slijipcevic of Brunel University in Hillingdon in west London. Chandra Wickramasinghe, on the other hand, hails from Sri Lanka and was educated at the Royal College in Colombo and the University in Ceylon. He later attended Cmbridge University and his tutor was none other than Fred Hoyle. He went on to co-author a number of books with Hoyle and a mountain of scientific papers. In all he has published 350 papers - many of them published in Nature.
