Biosphere Below

Sent in by Robert [withg a hat tip to Louis]. At https://humansarefree.com/2021/03/scientists-biosphere-miles-below-earth... ... scientists discover a massive biosphere miles below eath's surface. It has long been thought that organisms, such as bacteria, living in the soil, made up a quarter of all life on earth. In a new study, 'the deep carbon observatory', suggest up to 70 per cent of bacteria, and archaea [single cell micro-organisms] live  beneath our feet. Although many micro organisms live near the surface, others live deep within the earth, miles down.

A Greenland Cave

Sediments from a cave in NE Greenland tell a story. It was warm and wetter in the past. However, this is dated half a million years ago. See https://phys.org/news/2021-03-greenland-caves-arctic.html ... and has nothing to do with conditions during the medieval period. The big take home of the story is that NE Greenland is firmly within the Arctic as far as climate is concerned. Even a pole movement would  not alter that to any great degree. However, half a million years ago the situation was quite different. This was determined by flow stone in the cave.

Salt and Farming

At https://phys.org/news/2021-03-evidence-neolithic-people-salt-seawater.html ... discovery by Stephen Sherlock. At Loftus, on the Yorkshire Moors, there is a neolithic site going back 5800 years ago [early 4th millennium BC]. Charcoal deposits have been found on earlier occasions, as well as pottery etc. Now they have found evidence of Neolithic salt extraction from sea water. Salt has been an important product for many yearsd and old salt routes [including pack horse trails] were a feature of the medieval period, and are well documented.

Intrusions in Diamonds

Jewellers consider intrusions in diamonds a blemish - and they fetch a much lower price than diamonds that gleam more brightly. Geologists, on the other hand, are interested in the intrusions - minerals that got into the diamonds at some point during the process that made the diamonds. It is in fact a crucial factor as far as Plate Tectonics are concerned - or could be if one or two geologists made a point of pointing out that it contradicted the mainstream geological mantra. Genome Analysis

At https://phys.org/news/2021-04-genome-analysis-reveals-unknown-ancient.html ... human remains dated 45,000 years ago are said to reveal an unknown migration into Europe. As an add on they suggest these people may even have intermixed with Neanderthals - who did not disappear until 40,000 years ago. Actual tangible evidence of mixing, apart from genetic assumptions that they must have mixed, otherwise why would modern people have a vestige of Neanderthal genes in them. The idea also involves the dates produced by the research.

Space debris

Sent in by Gary - see www.centauri-dreams.org/2021/04/12/dustfall-earths-encounter-with-microm... ... encounters between the earth and space dust. Or in this instance what they call micrometeorites. The research made use of the pristine snow of Antarctica to find out how much space dust could be found in a chosen square of land. The snow aided the discovery of the particles as it is white and space dust comes in at a darker hue. The exercise enabled them to predict how much space dust collided with earth per each square metre of land - each year.

Austronesian DNA

At https://phys.org/news/2021-04-genetic-admixture-south-pacific-denisovans... ... research published in the journal Nature in April of 2021 tells us about diversity amongst the people of the South Pacific islands, as far as DNA heritage is concerned. It is already known that the Solomon Islands, New Guinea and Papua, as well as Australia were occupied by at least 45,000 years ago. However, the more remote islands of the South Pacific were not occupied by humans. It was suggested the indigenous Austronesian peoples had their origins on the island of Taiwan, just 5000 years ago.
