Tenoumer

Catastrophism

The Tenoumer Crater is situated in the desert of Mauritania. It is 1.9 km wide and the bottom of the crater is covered in a thick layer of sediment. Scattered rocks around the crater betray evidence of rock melt from the heat of the impact event – see https://phys.org/news/2022-06-image-tenoumer-crater-mauritania.html  … However, the crater is found in a region of ancient rock strata, going back long before the dinosaur era. Hence, initially, it was thought the crater was very old. It now looks like the impact event punched a hole in the ancient rocks and a date between 10,000 and 30,000 years ago has been suggested.
