At https://dailygalaxy.com/2026/05/alaska-teeth-fossils-reveal-new-mammal/ … fossilised teeth discovered in Alaska’s far north have revealed a mammal species that lived during the Cretaceous period. More evidence that early mammals had already evolved during the dinosaur dominated era, and it looks like they may actually go back to the Jurassic.
At https://dailygalaxy.com/2026/05/inside-rock-near-complete-human-skeleton/ …. a one metre wide rock found in South Africa contained a near complete hominin skeleton. The rock was already in a university laboratory for analysis when the amazing find was recognised. The hominin was Australopithicus and came from Malapa, a site that has revealed a lot of early human and hominin activity.
The rock was collected nearly 3 years ago. It was roughly one metre across and the remains were not visible to a casual observer. It was only when the scientists began to examine it the full significance emerged. It doesn’t say what kind of rock encased it but presumably sedimentary of some kind.
