At https://dailygalaxy.com/2026/10/tallest-standing-stones-origin-discovered/ …. There are now three standing stones left in situ in a field at Boroughbridge in Yorkshire. They are currently under threat from a planned housing estate in the fields adjacent to them. They have stood on this spot for around 4000 years – although we are told somewhere between 4500 and 3500 years ago. So, who knows for sure. One report even has 3200 years ago – coinciding with the end of the Bronze Age in the ancient world. They are an enigma – but according to recently published research they are even more enigmatic as they were transported from an outcrop 11 miles away – in the Pennines. This is Brimham Rocks, millstone grit, a very hard sandstone. Yet, millstream grit exists somewhat nearer, at Plumpton Rocks [8 miles away0. Not a lot in it one might assume – but it is the landscape over which they were carried that is the difficult part. Apparently, movement by ice raft is out of the question according to the authors as glaciers in the UK moved north to south -not west to east. Water transport by melting ice is not mentioned. They are also rather big and look a lot like the stone pillars seen at Brimham Rocks even today. In a remarkable piece of chemical analysis of zircon in the stones and their apetite crystals, researchers from the University of York and Curtin University in Australia, have proved their point of origin
