The Voyager 1 spacecraft has encountered a 'magnetic highway' at the edge of the solar system. It seems the Sun's magnetic field lines are joined into an interstellar magetic field. However, Voyager is not yet beyond the influence of the Sun in spite of claims last year it was approaching the limit as the solar wind had died down.
