Aurora experiment

3 February 2013

At http://phys.org/print278935705.html … an experiment is described that involves firing a rocket into the sky above Alaska in order to study auroral wind – a stream of oxygen atoms derived from Earth's atmosphere under the influence of the aurora. Normally, the amount of oxygen involved would not gain enough traction but in this scenario it can gain enough energy to avoid gravity – among other things. The study seeks to understand how this happens.
