At http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/siberias-mystery-end-world-crater-formed-after-… …. we have a piece on that crater that mysteriously appeared in Siberia – triggered, it would seem, by an explosion of some kind. The sky is also said to have glowed. This story goes back to 2013, some months after the Chelyabinsk meteor (and another meteor was ruled out for various reasons. Quite how the crater formed is open to argument but we are talking about a permafrost location and therefore an explosion of underground gases such as methane is the most likely explanation, it is thought. This is perhaps supported by reason the crater appears to have expanded since its initial formation – growing in size by 15 times, from 4m across to 70m. It was estimated to be 100m deep when found but at the moment it has filled with water and appears to be growing towards a nearby lake, or another body of water. A Russian scientist has come up with a new theory on the crater – but pity about the comments. Prize pillocks is all one can say.
In the same vein, re-writing science, at http://arstechnica.com/science/2016/06/that-70s-myth-did-climate-science… … is an unbridled attempt by the CAGW lobby to re-write what alarmists in the 1980s were saying, and writing. This subject has surfaced on multiple occasions and is continuously regurgitated like a woodpecker swallows and coughs up insects for their nestlings. Presumably the writer of the piece was in his nappies in the 1970s and 1980s and therefore feels free to re-write history. Mind you, he is right in that nobody took much notice of the 'cold alarm' at the time in the same way that many people ignore the 'warm alarm' of the present. It is clearly hype and overblown as it seems to be connected to the 60 year cycle which can be divided into 30 year periods of El Nino dominance followed by a 30 year period of La Nina dominance (producing warmer waters and cooler waters). This cycle is not liked by the climate change lobby as it appears to undermine their argument that recent global warming is in some way unique (when it apparently is not). The article even points out that climate scientists were reporting rising wrmth in the 1930s – and one only has to read HH Lamb to realise this is true. The 1930s were as warm as the 1990s, and possibly even warmer. It is difficult to know nowadays as past temperatures have been tampered with, but the cycle is prettly visible in spite of that – warm in the 1920s to 1940s, cool in the 1950s to 1970s and warm again in the 1980s to 2000s. Having said that the cooling of the 2010s – 2030s is not too obvious at the moment. Lots of people expect it to get colder – with a dominance of La Ninas over El Ninos. The El Nino of 2015 is at the moment confusing the picture and it depends on how the La Nina of 2016 shapes up as to how cold it might be in the coming winter. Whatever, either the 60 cycle will be proved to be a myth and the world is really warming, or the old climate scientists had their finger on the science button and we are in for some cooler times in the next 25 years or so.
