The CAGW movement is closely wrapped up with some other environmental issues such as farming methods. It is interesting to note prior to reading the link that some long rooted weeds such as dandelions and thistles have tap roots that can access nutrients deep in the ground – below plough level and spade depth. Organic farmers have been adding such roots to their compost bins for years as it creates a mix of chemicals assumed to be beneficial to the soil. Why they think that reducing farm yields is a good thing is not discussed. Perhaps they think there is an over abundance of food in the world. Farmers endeavour to put nutrients into the soil via fertiliser so this environmentalist piece of wishful thinking is likely to be ignored – but I suppose they can always persuade the politicos to ban artificial fertiliser. What is surprising is that there is actually a journal devoted to weeds, 'Weed Science' – in which the article is published. As a catastrophist add-on the word weed has a connection with Woden, an A/S god. Weedon-or Weeden is often used as another form of writing it down and is common in place names in parts of England. Weeds were therefore perceived to be the handiwork of less than supportive gods – which sounds like farmers back in those days had a persecution complex (and weeds represent a sort of war between farmer and nature). It is also possible that the weed association with Woden had another link – in that fields left unploughed for a year become riddled with weeds. If a catastrophic event, such as a heavy rain and flooding, led to the abandonment of a field for months one can see why Woden may have been held responsible – as the agent of chaos in the natural world.

It was the El Nino of 1998 that got the doomsayers going like a rocket in their heads and the 2015 El Nino that was projected to tear open the flat lining temperature graph of the last 16 years. In other words, CAGW is a lot of words about basically nothing much.
