Astronomy, Catastrophism

No, not the Egyptian god of that name, or any pharaoh Apophis, but the asteroid that on Friday the 13th, April of 2029, that will travel to our neck of the woods, passing within 30,000 km of the Earth. Its diameter is 340m – so it would be dangerous if it came somewhat closer to the Earth.

The asteroid Apophis was discovered back in 200. A fairly recent addition to the Near Earth Object catalogue. It is not mentioned by Clube and Napier in their two books. It presents an opportunity for a close up study of the asteroid. Small satellites will be launched in order to monitor it as it approaches and passes us by.
