William sent in a link to https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/opinion/jupiter-s-core-is-not-what-scientists-expected/vi-AA1Uv5Yv … the link takes you to a video with data from the Juno mission. William comments that where in lives they had 20 inches of snow. It came down softly – with no high winds. Left a lovely looking white carpet. Winter weather.

At https://phys.org/news/2026-01-halley-comet-wrongly-11th-century.html … a bit late in the day but a researcher says that Halley’s Comet was wrongly named and in fact its return was recognised by an elderly monk, Eilmer of Malmesbury abbey, in the 11th century. He witnessed two passages of the comet. Halley, on the other hand, came up wih data from 3 passages but probably just witnessed the one. His was the more intuitive – or scientific, if you like. Eilmer’s written evidence has survived in the chronicle of William of Malmesbury. However, we may note there is also a possibility that the ancients were also aware of the periodic nature of Halley’s comet – and it would have been a much more prominent manifestation then than now. What name did they call it? Perhaps the researcher might like to dig a bit further.

At https://dailygalaxy.com/2026/01/earth-magnetic-north-field-shifted-position/ … Earth’s magnetic north pole has continued to shift towards Siberia and away from Canada. A new world magnetic model has been declared, developed by NOAA in the US and the British Geological Survey in the UK. It has moved 2200 km since 1830. This is put down to secular variation in the Earth’s magnetic field.

At https://dailygalaxy.com/2026/01/nasa-discover-cold-war-us-military-base-under-greenland/ … a cold war era US military base has been discovered emerging from ice on Greenland. It is re-emerging via global warming, or recent solar activity. The base was known as Camp Century and was abandoned in 1967 as ice and cold weather combined to bury it. It was distinctly cooler in the 1960s. Not too cool though as I can remember the mini skirts. In other words, 60 years ago we were in a solar stage where temperatures were cool in comparison to what they have been recently. It began in the 1940s and came to an end with talk of an approaching Ice Age in the 70s and 80s. That all changed to global warming as we approached the millennium. At that ime the Sun was very active – and combined with hype around year 2000 it served to kick start alarmism. A secular doom laden fantasy.
