At https://phys.org/news/2026-06-violating-3rd-law-black-hole.html … Black Holes, regions in space where gravity is so strong that nothing escapes, has been a popular topic for years. Black holes, we are told, obey a set of rules in order to explain their mechanics. The 3rd law of black hole mechanics stated that an external black hole, one spinning or charged to its absolute theoretical limit, cannot realistically form in a finite amount of time. Extended black holes are predicted to have a surface gravity of zero. Thus, they should not emit Hawking radiation and would not evaporate in a vacuum. This is known as zero temperature. In 2022 Unger and Kehle published a paper that proved the 3rd law is in fact false -under certain conditions. Namely, the black holes they studied were electrically charged and reached zero temperature by absorbing idealised charged matter. We now have another study that claims all black holes can reach zero temperature. The claim here is that even gravity, alone, can enhance that state.
At https://phys.org/news/2026-06-milky-black-hole-century.html … the Milky Way black hole, according to theoretical physics, should display a powerful wind or jets. Even a small amount of gas falling into the black hole should generate enough energy to push material outwards. Over the last 50 years of searching they could not find it. Now, astrophysicists have discovered a powerful wind blowing from the Milky Way’s central supermassive black hole.
