In a similar vein another press release about a new study seems to actively promote the current scare story – wild fires will increase as the globe warms up. See https://phys.org/news/2026-10-ancient-wildfire-world.html … In the modern world wild fires are mostly the result of some kind of human activity such as poorly maintained electric cables or the failure to remove dead wood and vegetation. By far the biggest cause are fires lit by vandals for the sake of mischief. However, the constant refrain seems to be that enhanced global warming will trigger an increase in wildfires.
The study is in Scientific Reports – see https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-026-72676-8 … and incredibly it homes in on activity that occurred 65 million years ago. The very same million years ago that is said to have experienced the dinosaur killing dinosaur impact. According to a post on 21st October the impact supporters said not only was there an iridium anomaly but it was accompanied by a sooty layer they attributed to wild landscape fires across the globe. The new study chooses to completely ignore that fact and does not mention the asteroid impact at all. It would seem. Instead, they use uniformitarian geochronology to separate the evidence of a very hot period in association with the impact into distant global warming that caused massive wild fires. It is known as the Danian Hyperthermal but in a catastrophist interpretation was part and parcel of the impact. The authors, instead, call it a natural event. To do this they rely on uniformitarian dating of sedimentary layering. Can such stuff be taken seriously?
