Supernovae and Amino Acids

17 August 2010
Physics

A peculiar story is this one, and it was suitably published in Astrobiology as ‘Supernovae and the Chirality of the amino acids’ (but see www.liebertonline.com/doi/10.1089/ast.2009.0427?utum_source=io9+News but probably the peculiarity is due to the latter rather than the former. It appears to be an attempt to explain left handed amino acids and the virtual exclusion of right handed ones. The link above was via the io9 website but if you go online to www.liebertonline.com you will find they publish a variety of journals. Click on Astrobiology and it comes up with a list of issues by month. The article (and the whole issue) is on the free access version of December 2009. A nice selection of articles for anyone interested in biology and space. In fact, there is a whole raft of free issues, not just of Astrobiology but various other journals as well.
