Lightning on Saturn

7 July 2011
Electromagnetism

At www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.cfm?release=2011-203&cid=release_2011-203 we learn that Cassini has taken images and sounds of electrical storms on Saturn – and one of them has been raging since December. It generates 10 lightning flashes a second – and this is the tenth such storm revealed by Cassini since 2004 (see also www.physorg.com/print229177638.html).

Also at NASA www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.cfm?release=2011-204&cid=release_2011-204 … the Herschel Space Observatory has revealed an exploding star that expelled large amounts of dust. It is now being suggested that supernovae events are responsible for all the dust in the universe. Cosmic dust, it continues, consists of carbon, oxygen, iron etc. We are told that planets are made of cosmic dust – and life itself (from an article in Science July 8th).
