At www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2012/10/ (scroll down page to October 13th) or www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2012/10/the-mystery-of-red-giants-in-the-u… … apparently, a group of nuclear physics theorists are claiming they have solved the mystery of the red giants – a class of stars they say that did not fit into the consensus model of the universe. Since the Big Banged the universe has been evolving and one of its major components is carbon 12 – but how did it get here? The universe is still growing and so is the amount of carbon, which is an ingredient of life, the story relates, but some modification to the consensus model is required to explain how red giants came into being. The process involved is known as 'triple alpha' – but read it for yourself.
