Mercury and the Sun

High frequency flux transfer events have been detected near Mercury – is this evidence of the magnetic reconnection process? – see http://phys.org/print272050738.html … the discovery comes from measurements taken from data sent back by spacecraft that are currently orbiting Mercury. These flux transfer events are stronger and larger and more frequent than anything seen occurring between Earth and the solar wind – but Mercury is a lot closer to the Sun.
