WISSARD, short for Whillans Ice Stream Subglacial Access Research Drilling project, and is the exploration of a lake found beneath the Antarctic ice sheet. At www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.php?release=2013-077&cid=release_2013-077 news of a mini submarine, the sixe of a baseball bat, released into the lake to look at the geology, chemistry and hydrology. A hole was drilled, a borehole that went through 2600 feet of ice, some 20 inches wide it was enough to launch the mini submarine see video at www.jpl.nasa.gov/video/?id=1201

Meanwhile, at http://phys.org/print281200103.html … another submarine, also remote controlled, has been under the Caribbean Sea peering into sea vents and big holes looking for signs of life. See also www.intothecaymanabyss.blogspot.com
