Skeleton Lake

Gary forwarded this link at http://mysteriousuniverse.org/2014/05/the-mysterious-skeleton-lake-of-th… … which concerns a glacial lake in Uttarakhand State in northern India, high in the Himalayas. It is situated in a remote region of glaciers, rocky chasms and snow covered mountains, at an altitude of 16,500 feet. It is a smal lake – just 2m deep. It is frozen over most of the year and just a month or so, during the summer, there is a  thaw and one can peer into the water. It is full of skeletons. However, they appear to date back 1200 years – so how did they get there?

Some 200 human skeletons are in the small lake – which is puzzling. National Geographic mounted an expedition in 2004 and found there were probably as many as 300 skeletons as some of them are buried in the frozen ground around the lake, and the general date that emerged was 850AD. What happened in 850AD we might wonder – but it gets even more mysterious. They all appear to have died at the same time – and some of the bodies cut out of the ground sill had flesh, jewellery and leather clothing – but they all died in a violent manner. Injuries were all sustained to the heads and shoulder region of their bodies – quite unlike a battle wound. It seems they were struck from above – something falling out of the sky. Having said that, none of the commenters were taken by the idea and were universally sceptical. If they had been pummelled by objects from the sky they would have fallen over and exhibited pummelling to other parts of their bodies as they lay there.
