solar blast waves

At http://phys.org/print364026080.html … US and German researchers have discovered a new solar phenomenon, blas waves in the Sun's atmosphere accompanied by particle emissions rich in helium-3. The waves may accelerate particles into space, it is theorised – and the research paper is published in Astrophysical Journal (Oct 2015).

The discovery was made using data from STEREO (a solar observatory that travels around the Sun) in combination with ACE (which orbits close to Earth and detected the particle stream).

The same story is at https://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2015/10/15/blast-waves-in-the-suns-atmos… … where a commenter notes the science paper abstract says, 'we report on a large scale extreme ultraviolet (EUV) coronal wave observed in association with 3He rich solar energetic particles …' DOI:10.1088/0004-637X/812/1/53

Mind you, the environmentalists know it ain't the Sun causing global warming cos they do tell us at www.yaleclimateconnections.org/2015/10/earths-warming-how-scientists-kno… … and as far as ultra violet concerned 'there is some uncertainty' as during the last solar cycle (roughly 1998-2008 inclusive) ultra violet variability was significantly larger than thought – hat tip to Oldbrew (his comments are always worth reading).
