waking up and bursting forth

This story is at http://phys.org/print365933001.html … in June 2015 a huge burst of energy erupted across the electro-magnetic spectrum of a binary system in a far corner of the visible universe. The last outburst from this region of the sky was back in 1989. Has the black hole been asleep and is it waking up and demanding its breakfast?

v404 Cygni has been known about since the 18th century and was regarded as a variable star in the constellation of Cygnus – a white dwarf and a sun like star. Now, they might be thinking the variation is simply the black hole sparking into life every now and again. Why?
