Gary Gilligan forwarded the link www.newscientist.com/article/2101518-giant-ancient-supervolcanoes-threw-… … and www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3564649/the-oldest-crystal-Earth… … two different stories, one about volcanoes and the other concerning impact phenomena but quite similar in projection. The supervolcanoes, we are told, occurred as New Zealand was torn from the eastern side of Australia millions of years ago while the asteroid strikes slammed into the Earth during the young earth history. The zircon crystals were found on the Nullabor Plain in a remote part of Western Australia, and come from the volcanic activity on the other side of Australia whilst the zircons from the asteroid blitz are found in Sudbury in Ontario.
