Climate change

At http://notrickszone.com/2019/02/12/comprehensive-study-glacier-melt-esti… … geographers from FAU have investigated glaciers in South America in more detail that ever before, from tropical regions of Venezuela and Colombia to sub polar Tierra del Fuego. The highest mass loss is in southern Patagonia – but glaciers in the Andes, in tropical zones, (such Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia etc) have lost much less mass than previously projected. Overstated by ten times. Previously it was calculated glaciers in the tropical Andes were losing 6 gigatonnes of mass per year. The new figures reduce this to 0.55 gigatonnes. This is, of course, still a loss of mass – so something is going on. Some areas, though, have hardly changed at all – such as in the Andes of northern Chile and Argentina (and southern Bolivia). I suppose it depends over what time period – and if it involves recent years do they have any clue of ice mass loss in the first half of the 20th century.

At http://notrickszone.com/2019/02/11/a-plane-that-landed-on-greenlands-sur… …. It seems that back in 1942 a squadron of US fighter planes and two B-17 bombers, enroute the UK, were forced to emergency land in Greenland due to severe weather conditions. All occupants were recovered but the eight planes were abandoned – and were eventually buried beneath 80 years of snow and ice. Back in 1992 one of them was found – under 268 feet of ice and snow accumulation. Another plane was found in 2018 – under 340 feet of snow and ice. It seems Greenland cooled by 1.5C between the 1940s and 1990s – and it began to warm in the late 90s and early 2000s. Mind you, it must have been snowing a lot to get buried that way. Also, the burial site is at the bottom of Greenland and close to the coast. Nowhere near the glaciated central region of Greenland where ice cores are cored.

At https://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2019/02/13/un-ipcc-scientist-blows-whist… …. according to Dr Nils-Axewl Morner, retired head of paleogeophysics and geodynamics at Stockholm University, the IPCC is misleading the world about climate change and sea levels. He says it is more likely sea levels will decline rather than keep going up. Morner has been researching sea levels for 50 years – much longer than the warming scare. The same story is at http://notrickszone.com/2019/02/13/world-leading-ocean-expert-calls-sea-…
