The solar outburst washed over the earth, moon, and the planet Mars – bathing them in radiation. For the first time, human instruments on all three bodies, measured the same event almost simultaneously. The effects of this solar event were pubvlished on August 8th, 2023, in the journal Geophysical Research Letters. The same study found that earth’s magnetosphere and atmosphere rendered the radiation from the event as negligible.

Ever, in this case, doesn’t go back very far. The point is the amount of energy involved astounded scientists as they did not think it possible – emanating from the Sun. This is another take on an In the News post of a couple of days ago, and involves gamma rays produced by cosmic rays interacting with the Sun.
