Homo Erectus

Archaeology

We have Homo erectus building wooden structures in Zambia, half a million years ago [see https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-66846772 ] and now we have stone tools in Europoe dated 1.4 million years ago. They were uncovered at a site in Ukraine, at Korelevo. Homo erectus colonised the world. They have been found in Eurasia as early as 1.8 million years ago. The stone tools in Ukraine had been buried by river sediments, and later, covered by wind blown dust. That is the official point of view. They were unearthed by workers in a quarry – but how much other archaeology goes unnoticed, or unrecorded, in such places?

See https://www.livescience.com/archaeology/earliest-known-stone-tools-in-europe-are-14-million-years-old-and-they-werent-made-by-modern-humans …. for the details. Please note the  link says 24 million years ago as they have missed out the dot in 1.4 …
