At https://dailygalaxy.com/2025/11/scientists-enter-siberian-hole-what-inside/ … big holes in Siberian permafrost have intrigued You Tube fans. The holes themselves have appeared over the last few years – and are often blamed on melting of the permafrost by global warming. Or an explanation along those lines. Scientists have descended to the bottom of one of the biggest of the holes and found ice and sub zero temperatures. Not unexpected. There is also a lake at the bottom of the hole – in the summer months. The scientists had to wait for colder weather to arrive in order for the water to freeze over and allow research to take place. We are told the lake is estimated to be around ten and a half metres deep. Signs of gas pressure was also evident. Presumably methane, or a methane mix. This would support the favourite idea that subterranean gas eruptions are involved in the formation of the holes.
