Volcanic Plateau in Triassic

Four volcanic plateaus occurred in the Triassic, we are told at https://phys.org/news/2026-01-marine-volcanic-plateaus-triassic-extinction.html … leading to four episodes of mass extinction. It would be worth looking at how this idea is derived as it sounds like a way to water down the end of Triassic mass extinction event. No time to do that at the moment. These are known from oceanic islands, sea mounts, and plateau remnants. Presumably it comes about as a result of uniformitarian dating of sedimentary deposits – but I don’t know that. Of course, one could counter by saying the volcanic activity was in response to something missing from the narrative. A space rock, for example, although nobody is saying that. There is plenty of literature out there, and online, about the end of Triassic mass extinction event.

The claim is that the Antarctic was a temperature rainforest – not a tropical one. There are temperate rainforests on the western side of North America, for example, a long way from being a jungle. Not only that they are talking about 90 million years ago. That is Late Cretaceous. It makes sense if the Arctic was  temperate at that time with trees growing where tundra now exist, that the Antarctic too would have a non polar climate. Mainstream thinking is that global temperatures were high in the Cretaceous as a result of high co2 levels – a mantra adopted by conformist geologists. The question that is really begging an explanation – where were the ice caps at the poles during the Cretaceous?
