At https://phys.org/news/2026-04-regulatory-loophole-delay-ozone-recovery.html …. a fine piece of gaslighting one might say. The ozone hole was supposed to have disappeared long ag. We were told the UN legislation against CFC chemicals had done the trick – even though it was commonly known the patent had run out and the chemical people wanted a newly patented product to replace them. You can’t make a decent profit out of product that had run its patent course. Seems like the chemical people themselves might be on the end of an enviro research paper just produced by a team of scientists in Europe. The ozone hole did not disappear. Or, it did, temporarily. It came back, went away again, and came back – and it will keep on coming back. Its got nothing to do with CFCs. In spite of all the enviro claims of success in the past.
So, what is the answer. Well, they have found a way to explain why the CFC ban did not fully work. Its all down to feedstock chemicals – very similar to CFCs. They were not banned so now we have to ban them also. That will work. Or it will bemuse Joe Public. The icing on the cake for the enviros is that some of the chemicals in feedstock are used to make plastic and various other nasties not to the liking of the green zealots. However, when we get down to basics we should take account of those scientists who previously made fun of the CFC success claim as they say they know what causes the ozone hole to open up for a few years and then close back up, the point where the enviros claimed victory for their agitation. Solar activity. The sun has been extremely active in the current eleven year solar cycle but the previous one was notable by its low activity. Snap. Even then the ozone hole reopened – before closing once again. In the current solar cycle the hole has got bigger and bigger giving a lie to the success story surrounding CFC regulation. The only thing it succeeded in doing was getting enterprising Chinese businessmen to produce CFCs solely for the reason of being paid to then destroy them. However, that scam has long gone and excuses are no longer available. Hence, the new research paper. An attempt to keep the success story a forever success story – even though there is no hope banning CFCs will ever make a pinch of improvement in the ozone quantity over the poles. It is the solar wind, and the ions in aurorae that disperse the ozone from the poles. They create the hole and will continue to create an ozone hole whenever they are in a dominant position of the eleven year solar cycle.
It is also worth pointing out, as others have, that prior to the alarmism screaming forth from the media about the discovery of an ozone hole, nobody had much bothered to take notice of the ozone over the poles. For all anyone knew the ozone could well have been disappearing and returning on a regular basis over centuries and millenniums. It probably has done so if the solar activity connection is right.
