The date they are coming up with is between 60,000 and 50,000 years ago. Just prior to the Laschamp event. Was Arabia greener back then? It seems it was as the tools were found near what was then a lake – in the Nefud Desert.

The claim is that Denisovans were big fellows. How big? Not quite so big as they were around 6 feet in height with body weights similar to modern humans in the Late Pleistocene period. They came from the sea bed between Taiwan and China. The remains are estimated to be around 45,000 years ago – very close to the Laschamp event. One point is intriguing, according to the author. The femur bone had a strong ridge of bone called a pilaster, on the back of the femur. This feature is also associated with modern humans and is linked to patterns of movement and activity. Did Denisovans morph into modern humans?
