San rock art and landscape fires

On the basis  palaeontologists had discovered unusual dragon like dinosaur bones in rocks on the surface of southern Africa. If modern people had noticed these remains, perhaps so too had the San Bushmen. They, after all, had occupied the region for an enormous period of time. As hunter gatherers they had time on their hands, it was thought, an idea unconnected to the  amount of time required to obtain food for sustenance. Now, an entirely different story has been created by more  conventional archaeologists. The dinosaur looking monster had nothing to do with monsters or dragons. It depicted a landscape fire on the grassland Veldt. What was thought to be a horned creature, they say, was peeling or eroded rock art. However, the monster is depicted clearly and looks very similar to monsters depicted on Sahara rock art from the early Holocene period. It did not necessary have any horns but could easily be described as a dragon. These mythical creatures crop up all over the world. Invariably, they are associated with landscape fires – fire breathing dragons. It seems we now have what looks like a San version of a fiery monster – presumably in the sky above them.
