The James Webb Space Telescope is once again causing an upset in cosmological theoretical circles. At https://phys.org/news/2026-08-webb-reveals-oxygen-rich-surviving.html … It has discovered that dust and water can form and survive close to a supermassive black hole. The observations came from looking at the star IRS3 which is seeding and enriching its neigbourhood with newly formed material in spite of the intense radiation that is supposed to surround Sagittaurus A, the black hole at the heart of our galaxy. It is shedding gas and material into near space via its stellar wind outbursts. This, in turn, is a source of cosmic dust – yet black holes are supposed to swallow up any material in their vicinity. If matter comes too close to a black hole it becomes part of a meal – consumed by the standard view of what a black hole is all about. Mind you, the position of star IRS3 may be determined by red shift. In turn, red shift may not be the best way to calculate distance – as suggested by Halton Arp some moons ago.
