The Cassini mission data seems to indicate the rings formed between 10 and 100 million years ago. A new model suggests one of its moons, Titan, collided with a massive lost moon, triggering a chain of orbital chaos that later destroyed two inner moons and produced the rings. The same violent event may also explain Saturn’s unusual tilt, Titan’s young surface, and Hyperion’s strange shape. The rings are still raining into Saturn today but potentially they will eventually disappear. No mention of the electrical elements involved in the interaction of the moons with the planet.
