A stretch of sand 400m in length was peeled back to reveal the remains. It is just one section of a forest that once stretch for miles along the coast and out to sea as it dates to the early Holocene period when Britain was still connected to the continent – in this case, to Denmark. One local said he had seen the fossil forest before, 40 years ago. On previous occasions the bones of deer and wild boar have also been found, and flint tools.
