At http://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/04/04/claim-nuclear-tests-stopped-global… – one of the bugbears to global warming theory is the fact the earth cooled from the 1940s to the late 1970s – and here is a paper from the Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics April 2011 that claims it was due to the testing and detonation of nucleur devices in the 1950s and 1960s. When reading claims like these one wonders why they have to scratch the depths – if AGW was taking place it would be self evident without embroiderment. Many nucleur devices were tested under the ground which would nullify much of what is said – and after 1963 there was a test ban treaty that effectively stopped them taking place – but the cooling continued until 1980. In addition, who has been testing nucleur devices in recent years? If the argument of the paper was correct something similar must also account for current cooling – or not? It is true that the Russians did a lot of atmospheric tests in the High Arctic which did perhaps cause a dip in Arctic temperatures in the mid-1960s – but cooling was already 20 years long by then.

Basically, he says IPCC science is based on a series of assumptions – which are suspect. Interestingly, he makes a comparison with the Milankovitch Ice Age Theory which for nearly 40 years was rejected because scientists boxed themselves in by assumptions that in the end were irrelevant.
