Volcanoes and Melting glaciers

16 June 2014
Climate change

At http://phys.org/print321534287.html … according to recent CAGW hype we should all be scared – the West Antarctic ice sheet is melting. In reality the problem involves the Thwaites glacier – but that has been enough to make a stir (in spite of the fact Antarctic sea ice is growing year on year). Now, we have a paper that actually explains what is happening with the Thwaites glacier – and global warming is not responsible. The paper is published by PNAS (June, 2014) and attributes the cause to geothermal – heat from underneath the glacier causing it to melt from that direction – as a result of volcanic or tectonic activity (see www.pnas.org/cgi/doi/10.1073/pnas.1405184111)
