have picked up some five super massive black holes previously unseen as they were hidden in clouds of dust and gas (the above is an artists impression of a black hole). The finding was unleashed upon the audience at the recent National Astronomy meeting in Llandudno (July 6th). Basically, what has been seen are high energy x-rays. It is a matter of faith that they represent physical evidence of black holes. It is also thought they were gobbling up lots of dust and gas – also a matter of faith – and emitting huge amounts of radiation.
