Pluto behaving badly

At http://phys.org/print381597635.html … Pluto's interaction with the solar wind is unique we are told. According to a study in the Journal of Geophysical Research – Space Physics (May 2016) Pluto behaves in a sort of halfway fashion between a comet and a planet when it encounters the plasma of the solar wind (the story is also at Daily Galaxy blog and Universe Today).

Scientists have observed material coming off Pluto and inter acting with the solar wind. It seems Pluto has characteristics less like a comet and more like a planet but in an unexpected manner.

Pluto continues to confound. It is a long way from the Sun, and it is small, yet Pluto's gravity is strong enough to hold heavy ions in its extended atmosphere. Like the Earth, Pluto has a very long ion tail. Fascinating.
