Aty https://phys.org/print455346704.html … fatty residue on pottery from the Dalmation coast of Croatia has revealed the presence of fermented dairy products – soft cheeses and yoghurt. They datge back 7200 years ago.

At https://phys.org/print455536774.html …  a new book on barbarian cultures – and the dark  ages. Peter Boguski, 'The Barbarians: Lost Civilisations' – which looks at prehistoric cultures in Europe before contact with the Greeks and Romans (as well as the barbarians encountered by Roman armies). They left no written records but Boguski is an archaeologist and he claims he has pieced together a wealth of information and this is what he presents in an attempt to define just how barbarian the barbarians really were. It is well known that Roman propaganda demeaned the Gauls and and others it encountered and subjugated – but what kind of culture was terminated by the imperial war machine as it's armies spread across Europe.
