Sent in by William – go to https://eos.org/articles/hiroshima-bomb-created-asteroid-impact-like-glass … it has been discovered that the atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima in WWII left behind glass spherules – much like the asteroid at the K/T boundary event. The blast turned part of the city itself, its buildings, into molten glass – in the form of spherules that rained down around Hiroshima. To for material into glass – vitrification – temperatures need to be above 1800 degrees C. The atomic bomb caused sand and rocks in the Bay to reach such temperatures. Some of the glass spherules also contain iron and steel – the very fabric of Hiroshima itself.
