At www.thegwpf.com/isle-of-man-seabird-populations-plummet-as-wind-farms-ov… … the Isle of Man wildlife charity Manx Birdlife has reported on a 40 per cent decline in the populations of many sea birds in their region of the Irish Sea. This follows a comprehensive survey that took place over two years. Something has clearly gone wrong for this to happen and the fact it coincides with a proliferation of wind farms in the waters off the western coasts of England and Wales, on the continental shelf system between Cardigan and Cumbria, appears to be the leading factor. This follows closely on from evidence that migrating insects such as butterflies and ladybirds are also affected by wind fams in the North Sea – and a drastic decline in numbers has been recorded in Germany (but curiously not reported in major media outlets). Will the decline of sea birds off the Isle of Man be reported by mainstream media? One has to doubt it and in any case if it is it will obviously be put down to global warming (of one sort or another). All very predictable. If they can ignore the mass death of bats over the last 20 years or so it is pretty obvious the death of sea birds will not raise an eyebrow. After all, who likes herring gulls in any case.
