Comet Like Tails

Astronomy

Sent in by Robert. Astgeroids that sprout  comet like tails.  See for example https://phys.org/news/2020-05-atlas-telescope-first-of-its-kind-asteroid… …. an asteroid sporting a tail. ATLAS is designed to scan the sky for potential earth threatening cosmic threats such as asteroids (small and big). It also finds cosmic bodies that do NOT threaten the earth but are never the less interesting – such as asteroids with tails.

One such asteroid found amongst a group of Jupiter asteroids has been designated a comet interloper – allowing the mainstream explanation for the asteroid belt to remain intact. We may expect further finds of asteroids with tails as that is the nature of ambiguity when it comes to asteroids and comets. See https://phys.org/news/2020-05-astronomers-recategorize-asteroid-like-com…

At https://cosmosmagazine.com/space/astronomy/early-disc-galaxy-puts-theori… … ALMA discovers a galaxy disc that appears to date back to the early universe – and it was rotating (something of a surprise we are told). Rotating galaxies that early in the history of the universe are thought to be rare.

A similar story is at Https://phys.org/news/2020-05-alma-twinkling-heart-milky.html … ALMA has spotted the twinkling heart of the Milky Way.
