Life Beneath the Ice Sheet

William sent in this link to the story that the British Antarctic Survey team have made a bore hole through ice to the world below. It drilled through 900m of ice and found life 290 km away from the ocean, in complete darkness and very low temperatures. The drilling went down to solid rock – described as a huge boulder. Life was clinging to the rock, sponge like creatures. At https://phys.org/news/2021-02-enormous-ancient-fish-fossil-pterodactyl.html … an enormous fossil fish has been found, almost as big as a Great White. It was a very large coelacanth, 5m in length. It was much larger than modern specimens of coelacanth, and you guessed it – in Cretacous geology. Seems like it was not just the dinosaurs that were overwhelming in size but they had some very big fish too.
